- Winemaker Franck Grux candidly told me that the 2001 vintage was complicated as the hail that fell in Volnay and parts of Pommard was terribly precise and devastating and thus we elected to declassify many of our upper level wines. However, he was also of the view that what was kept is is really very, very good if not exactly vintage of the century material. As did most serious domaines, Grux noted that it was necessary to sort the grapes extremely carefully (90% of the Olivier Leflaive wines are from purchased grapes) and because he was worried about extracting too much tannin, punch downs were a bit read more...
