(this spent 15 months in wood, of which 30% was new, and another 3 in steel before bottling). Subtle pain grillé notes to go with understated honey and white flower aromas followed by beautifully precise flavors that offer lemon, apple and mineral notes. There is grand cru length here and though it's a small nit, there is a slightly sweet character to the finish. Otherwise, this is classy and powerful if not especially dense.

The Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru is a white wine produced on the restricted area of the village of Puligny-Montrachet (Cote d'Or). The origin of the name of this particular parcel goes back to the Middle-Ages where the landlord of Puligny transmitted this climate to his oldest son the Chevalier .

However, this group of 98s and 99s is quite good and while there is a certain house style, it is not overly intrusive and the overall approach strikes me as having become more sensitive in recent vintages. In particular, the Domaine has produced an outstanding group of 98s. One important aspect in the improvement of the Maison Leflaive wines is that they were bought in as must, rather than in cask or as finished wines; read more...

Fragrant nose combines apricot, lemon, butterscotch, mint and minerals. Concentrated and dense, but rather dominated today by its powerful spine. Some unresolved SO2 gives the wine a slight finishing bitterness. Not currently showing the subtlety it displayed from barrel a year ago, and rather tough to assess today.
