Olivier Cousin Anjou Gamay 2005
Loved the nose on this one! Soft pot-pourri, floral rosey bouquet and olive on a soft and delicate body... so savory and enticing.
A wine unlike any other (well... except anything else made by Domaine Olivier Cousin). In the glass this wine is a deeper red and clouded with unfiltered yumminess. The nose has interesting strawberry and wheat aromas, along with nice blackberry and a little funk. On the attack the beautiful fruit dominates, namely the strawberry, cherry and raspberry. But after a second or so the wine changes its character completely and becomes, more than anything, a source of debate. Some people get fois gras notes, others popcorn and others still get a sort of meaty something-or-other. I get crazy corn flakes & milk notes, then a finish that continues to sweep from sweet to savory for a while. Definitely a distinct wine and one that wine geeks and neophytes can enjoy together. Certified biodynamic.
Extraordinarily funky and changes dramatically over the course of a meal. But a fun ride.
