Rich sweet earth on the nose, it’s mica flecked yet with a jammy, almost figgy sweetness. Fresh and rich with floral top notes and mild insinuations of tomato leaf and dried green pepper and shoe leather and menthol The mouthfeel is wonderfully fresh and crisp with gently austere tannins and superb acids supporting moderate cranberry and sour red cherry fruit. Finishes with good length, a bit of wood spice and some nice cherry and wild plum jam on the finale. Very nicely put together and just beginning to drink well though with a long life ahead. 89pts

Add your reviewAn excellent wine by any standards. Fruity on the nose with smoky aromas, rich yet well-balanced and fresh on the palate thanks to a subtle acidity, a pleasant length to make the pleasure last. Tasted on the terrasse of Le Choiseul, in Amboise, on a beautiful, memorable day in April 2009...
Interesting - very dry Italian like (almost) - good nose at first - great taste at first but then... a bit dry and the fruit disappeared - not bad though at all - very good for the price - interesting wine - very earthy and lots of minerals - needs some time - we have another bottle and will more than likely like it better in time -
This wine has a medium to large body with a strong minerality and earthiness.
Despite the age on this wine it still has a lot of green, vegetal flavors and a good bit of acidity.
Smooth and soft tannins, with strong cedar and cherry delight the palate in this dry and delicate wine.

Everyone benefits from an easy year for vignerons. 1989 was blessed with a mild winter, a long growing season and a pristine harvest, perhaps the vintage of the century for the region. The resulting wines were graced with concentrated fruit, balanced acidity, and certain ageing capacity. This is absolutely a showstopping bouquet of burnt violet to be enjoyed with a proper roast, exotic barbecue or perfectly aged strong cheeses.
