Food Pairings for Ojai Vineyard Syrah Santa Barbara County
Wow, what a FUNKY nose! This smells awful, like serious barnyard and poop, but the taste is actually very good. Dark berry fruit, pepper and smoked meat flavors. Nice acidity and tannins. Hard to get past the funk on the nose though. My girlfriend was actually drinking it whilst holding her nose...Day 2: What a difference! The poopy nose is gone, replaced with lovely blackberry fruit, vanilla, and earth. Flavors are the same...lots of pepper, blackberry and smoked meat, and just delicious! Without the funkified nose, this is a 90+ pointer. This sat in my decanter for over an hour, and didn't lose the funky nose, then sat for 24 under vacu-seal. Interesting transformation, and one of the reasons I find wine so facinating! Bumping the score up a point, for the un-funked nose.
