Oddero Dolcetto d'Alba 2015

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Buttery and a bit bubblegummy on the nose, this is very fruity with lots of blueberry fruit and accent notes of ivy and rose petal, along with a touch of reduction. A little sweet on the nose, and then soft, slightly rich, and almost chunky in the mouth. This is a very easy going, laid back style of Dolcetto that is a bit too easy and supple for my palate but should find a broad audience with its gulpable fruit and nice mineral tinge on the finish. 85pts

Our winery is nestled in the Langhe hills, overlooking a sea of vines. Just as in the past, only grapes from family-owned vineyards are used to make Oddero wines. “Poderi e Cantine Oddero” (Oddero Estate and Winery) is a historic name among Barolo producers. Run for generations by men, it is now in the hands of Mariacristina and Mariavittoria, the daughters of Giacomo Oddero, Barolo patriarch and a man whose fame reaches beyond the Langhe. The company dedicates its full attention to the winemaking process, blending ancient wisdom and modern production techniques with patience and tenacity: from the pruning of the vines to the pressing of the grapes, up to the ageing of selected vintages. Oddero vines grow in some of the best and sunniest sites (known as sôri) on the hills in the Barolo and Barbaresco zones and beyond. Read less

Brunella in Castiglione Falletto, old vines of forty to sixty years, sees only SS Nice clear perfumes of forest floor, pencil lead, violets, wild black fruits, and a bit of talc greet the nose. This is a bit soft on the palate, very easy to drink, with simple berry fruit on the palate supported by some soft tannins. Soft, easy and short. 84pts

A blend of fruit from Castiglione Falleto and La Morra All Stainless 10-12 day fermentation/maceration. Good intensity on the nose with a core of crisp, red berried fruit, lightly vegetal/floral top notes and a base of chalky earth 2+ Crisp tannins and very bright acids give an elegant mouthfeel with rounded edges, a bit polished 2+ Almost plumy fruit on the attack with deep soil tones and a refreshingly classic touch of bitter almond 2+ Lovely mouthgrab on the finish, which is of medium length and ends with a finale of wild red berries and mineral. 2+ 88pts
