Food Pairings for Obikwa Merlot Stellenbosch
I purchased this 2009 Merlot with a 2009 Chardonnay from Coles Supermarket under the Buy 1 Get 1 Free deal. The Chardonnay is okay: fruity and fresh, but the Merlot has a very smokey smell, no aroma and a very woody taste. It is dry but has absolutely no berry flavour. The aftertaste was almost kind of rubbery. I couldn't make any sense out of this - it does not taste like wine to me. Even my local bottle shop's South Australian clean skin has a better texture and aroma than this Obikwa 2009 Merlot. Despite the beautiful story and history behind this brand name, I'm disappointed.
Seriously, can you do something about the nose? Seven times out of ten, it's brutal
