Oberon Cabernet Savignon 2009
Classic Napa Valley with deep, rich color and concentrated black fruit character. Lush, dark berry and cassis flavors complemented by 18 months of French oak barrel aging and a supple tannin structure. Cabernet Sauvignon 85.93%, Petite Sirah 3.88%, Merlot 3.66%, Syrah 3.14%, Petite Verdot 2.77%, other red varieties 0.62%
Bright and sweet red fruit flavors, shooting through from the nose to the finish. It's a bit on the sweet side for a dry wine, full of cherries. Not my thing but it's definitely some people's thing.
Juicy jammy berry fruit with some rustic characteristics. Really delicious with a big steak dinner. Very smooth and yummy
A bouquet of rich berries attacks the nose with a spicy undertone of cherry pit...almost jolly rancher like but very pleasant in the mouth with an explosions of bright fruit and balanced tannins.
Good, but a little on the European style if I dare say it. This opened with a very earthy smell and taste to some extent. Not very indicitave of a Napa Cabernet. All in all it was a good wine. I'm going to decant the next 2009 for a few hours after I open it. Cheers!
Nice finish better than expected decant for 2 hours.
Tastes like $40

How can you go wrong with one? From the Micheal Mondavi Family, Oberon is the work of fourth generation winemaker, Robert Mondavi Jr. in cooperation with Napa Valley veteran winemaker Tony Coltrin. Grapes come from Rutherford, Oak Knoll, Wooden Valley and their own Oso Vineyard in Pope Valley. The blend is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petite Sirah, 4% Merlot, 3% Syrah and 3% Petit Verdot all aged up to 18 months in 47% new French oak. There's an ultra-ripe fruit character that makes the wine remarkable forward and lush. Wine Enthusiast Magazine picked it recently as a Best Napa Cab Under $30 with a 91 point score. They said "This release represents a gigantic leap forward for Oberon in their basic Cabernet Sauvignon. Past releases have been so-so. This one’s terrific. Blended from vineyards all over the valley, it shows all the hallmarks of a Napa Cab you want. It’s dry, full-bodied and impressively ripe in blackberries, currants, licorice and oak, with a long, smooth finish."
