Oakford Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville 1998

Winemaker's Notes:

6.89 tons, all from the estate of Oakford Vineyards, Oakville. The wine has a very saturated purple color deeper than one would expect for a '98. The aromas are complex, with a deep blackberry/cherry core and just enough cedary notes from the oak to add considerable complexity. The mouthfeel is the wine's most impressive component. The wine is very lush and rich. The tannins, while they certainly are present, don't intrude on the fruit's expression. Multiple layers of red and black fruits bearing an almost jammy quality are further enhanced by vanilla notes from the oak The finish is long and detailed, with the fruit again at the forefront. As with all 98's tasted thus far, this is a wine to enjoy sooner rather than later. While it certainly will age longer, I feel its optimum drinkability will arrive in 2 to 5 years. Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
