Nyetimber Classic Cuvee England 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Nyetimber's history has been colourful, its vinous ownership having passed from
the American Stuart Moss, via the flamboyant pop impressario Andy Hill to the
Dutch entrepreneur Eric Heerema. In the more distant past it was built by Henry
V111 for Anne of Cleves, although she never actually took ownership, thanks,
famously, to Holbein's pictorial exaggeration of her charms The 2005 Classic
Cuvée is made from approximately 60% Chardonnay , the balance divided
fairly evenly between the two Pinots, Noir and Meunier.

The wine has exuberant youthful aromas, with hints of honey, lemon zest and
shortbread all evidenced; on the palate there is the characteristic Nyetimber
autolytic weight allied to notes of quince and grapefruit and even flavours
which are heading towards the more exotic end of the fruit spectrum. A clean
quite complex finish completes the picture in a more than satisfying fashion.

(Simon Field MW, BBR Buyer)

A new era for English wine began in 1988 when the first Nyetimber vineyards were planted in the heart of West Sussex. The aim – to make premium sparkling wine that would rival Champagne. That aim has been fully realised, and over the years the wines have attracted international acclaim and set a high benchmark for premium sparkling wines the world over. Now the largest vineyard in the UK, the Nyetimber Estate comprises 350 acres under vine and it is the fusion of expertise in the vineyard together with highly skilled winemaking that sets the wines apart. Also unique in the UK, Nyetimber is the only producer to make premium sparkling wine exclusively from estate grown fruit, thus ensuring complete control at every stage of the process. Classic Cuvée is the signature style from Nyetimber and is a blend of white Chardonnay fruit and Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, both black grapes. Vintage dated each year, our winemakers draw upon this palette of base wines to create a wine of structure and complexity through the exacting process of 'assemblage', or blending Read less
