Numanthia Toro Termes Tempranillo 2000

Winemaker's Notes:

93 points Robert Parker: The project of importer Jorge Ordonez, the 2000 Numanthia (100% Tinta de Toro [Tempranillo] from 70-100-year old vines) was produced from meager yields of one ton of fruit per acre. It spent 19 months in new French oak, with malolactic in barrel, and neither fining nor filtration. This is a massive, dense ruby/purple-colored effort that needs 3-4 years to strut its stuff. Thick, juicy, and concentrated, it displays notes of creme de cassis, melted licorice, spice box, and earth. It is an impressive, pure, layered wine to drink between 2006-2017. (Feb 2003)

100% Tinta de Toro from 30 year old ungrafted vines. A dark ruby garnet color with an aromatic nose of black cherry cola, tobacco, coffee grinds, and leather. The palate is extremely flavorful with lots of dark red fruit, unsweetened cocoa powder, dried mushroom and distinct dry earthiness. Termes is dry, medium bodied, with lively acidity, weak astringent tannins, and a long complex finish. This is a complex wine that is much more delicate than the 14.5% abv would have you believe. Drinking well right now and I believe it could even get a little better in the next couple of years. I had this with arroz con pollo or Spanish rice with chicken, homemade pork balls, and Spanish chorizo which was fantastic. 4.5/5

Big rustic wine with plenty of tannins and black fruits. Smoke, plum, blackberry, graphite that are balanced by a healthy acidity.

Powerful. Coffee, blackberry and licorice aromas explode from the glass. On the palate, the wine is concentrated yet lively, with lavish oak, rich tannins and ripe, concentrated fruit. A bombshell, yet balanced and clean. Best after 2004. 350 cases i... Wine Spectator. A Tempranillo wine from Toro in Spain. 2000 Bodega Numanthia Termes Numanthia 750ml
