What to Expect

Most famous as the predominant grape in the blended wines of Rioja, Tempranillo has emerged as a potential star in regions as disparate as Australia and California. Tempranillo generally produces medium-bodied wines with juicy acidity and bright raspberry fruit enlivened by notes of dusty earth, dry herbs and leather. Tempranillo is often blended with Grenache, Graciano, and Mazuelo (aka Carignan) in the production of red wine from the Rioja region of Spain.

Winemakers Notes

Another great vintage. Termanthia is a thermonuclear fruit bomb; Termanthia is a selection of the best grapes from the finest parcels that was aged in 100% new French oak for 20 months and bottled unfined and unfiltered. It is an incredibly rich dense purple-colored offering that possesses all the characteristics found in the Numanthia in addition to extra fragrance intensity and richness. Already drinkable this stunning Spanish red will be fascinating to follow over the next decade.

A Tempranillo wine from Toro in Spain. 2006 Bodega Numanthia Termes Numanthia 750ml

This is a big wine (and I am not talking about the uber-heavy glass they used for the bottle). It's 100% Tempranillo from Toro.
I need to drink another bottle of this to really appreciate it. It is a lot more complex than most of the Tempranillos I have drunk. Spicy. Black fruit. Great structure. This is a wine for big, winter food.

Produced from super low yields and boasting powerful concentration, Numanthia will not let you down. This wine comes from 70-100 year old Tinta del Toro vines (the local name for Tempranillo) and exhibits flavors of bittersweet chocolate and earth. Drink now, or hold for decades to come.

Spicy, oak-inflected aromas of cherry, licorice and roasted coffee. Medium-bodied and firm, the cherry flavor braced by fresh acids and supported by gentle, dusty tannins. Finishes youthfully taut and with impressive persistence, a note of tobacco sneaking in on the back.

Muscular yet expressive, this red offers roasted plum, bitter chocolate, tobacco and hot stone notes. Thick, with rich, ripe tannins and just enough acidity to keep it lively. Best from 2010 through 2020. 4,000 cases imported. –TM Wine Spectator. A Tempranillo wine from Toro in Spain. 2006 Bodega Numanthia Termes Termes 750ml

Dark ruby. Ripe cherry and plum aromas are complicated by espresso and dark chocolate. Powerful, densely packed dark berry flavors are distinctly ripe, with chewy tannins adding structure. And yet this is surprisingly light on its feet, finishing with gentle acid lift and brighter red berry character.
