Novy Family Wines Syrah Santa Lucia Highlands Garys' Vineyard 2007
93 points Wine Enthusiast: A tremendous Syrah that shows how the Highlands aren’t just for Pinot Noir. Dry and peppery, it has big tannins and crisp acidity framing blackberry, black currant, blueberry and dark, unsweetened chocolate flavors. Impresses for richness, complexity and power. Now-2013. Editorial Reviews for Novy Family Wines Syrah Santa Lucia Highlands Garys' Vineyard
Dark and a bit oaky at first pass with plenty of toasty hickory nut notes that fade into a more balanced array of inky, bloody, salted meat and blue fruit notes. This is slow to open in the mouth, starting off the a bit of a dense, black hole feel. The acid seems to be on the outside of the fruit and the tannins well buried. There’s a nice overlay of oak as well but this slowly broadens in the mouth with a fine, juicy blackberry core of fruit and gentle nutella chcoc/nut tones adding some complexity. This exhibits fine balance. Really exhibits lovely purity and while it’s a bit tannic today the finish exhibits nice fruity aromatics that bode well for the future. Lacks a bit of complexity at this stage but the finish gets long and longer showing brilliant fresh yet not sweet berry fruit. 92pts
Gorgeous wine that is still young and likely to get better. Silky and rich. This same vineyard got a 94 wine spectator for their 2005 bottle so I'd suggest buying some at least until WS rates this.
