Nota Bene Cellars Red Bordeaux Blend Red Mountain Ciel du Cheval Vineyard 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Ciel du Cheval Vineyard is one of the premier vineyards in Washington State. Located in the AVA of Red Mountain it is blessed with warm days and cool nights that ensure mature ripe flavors will dominate. This blend of equal parts Cabernet and Merlot is showing dark fruit wrapped in a bold structure of tannins that coat your mouth with each sip and go on forever

For our customers not familiar with the viticulture of Washington State, you must know that all of the vines from which our grapes are sourced are grown on their own roots. This is contrary to viticultural practices in France, Italy, Germany, California, and Oregon where wine grape vines are grafted onto root stock derived from Vitus Labrusca, native American grape varieties that are resistant to phylloxera, a root louse responsible for devastating the world’s vineyards in the 19th century. We feel this gives Washington State an edge in discovering the true terroir of the wine grape. Following are the fine vineyards our grapes come from. We cannot overestimate the importance of the quality of grapes we choose for our wines. The wine is truly grown in the vineyard, which makes choosing high quality vineyards one of our winemaker’s most important tasks. Consider that we have been making and studying the wines from Washington State for 19 years and still find that we have plenty to learn. This is, however, almost a cliché in the wine business here in Washington State when we compare our experience with those of French and Italian winemakers who have been learning the terroir of their vineyards for generations. Nota Bene proves that you don't have to spend $50 for a wine from one of Washington's greatest vineyards. Big, and bold the wine has deep fruit and mando tannic structure, much more than I had expected for a $25 bottle. It shows all the refinement this vineyard is known for. A true value.
