Tasting Notes
A wonderfully fruity and balanced wine, the intense aromas of raspberry and cassis are complimented by dusty and spicy notes. Medium-bodied, the bold blackberry flavor and creamy structure lead to a lengthy finish. Serve with eggplant in Marinara sauce or a custard-based dessert. Vintage 2004 The 2004 vintage was the final year of a five-year drought, so vegetation and crop yield were smaller than normal, resulting in intensification of color, body and flavor. Both the spring and summer were hotter than average, and with a dry and mild fall, there was ample hang-time for read more...full, even ripening. Winemaking The Classic Zinfandel is crafted to be accessible and food-friendly, starting in the vineyards. We harvested evenly-ripened bunches from low-yielding vines at moderate sugar levels, to avoid excessive alcohol. Fermented to dryness, the wine was aged mainly in upright oak casks, with no new oak added. The result is an enticing wine with bright fruit, superb balance, and that is easy on the palate. (hide)
