Norman Vineyards Merlot Paso Robles 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

An ideal vintage, this enticing Merlot has intense, ultra-ripe aromas of cherry and boysenberry, moderate spice, and hints of mint and tar. Although full-bodied, it has an elegant structure, with a big, berry flavor and a lingering finish of fudge and caramel. An ideal wine to match with barbequed steak or rack of lamb, it is enjoyable now, will peak in two years, and if cellared properly, will age nicely for a decade. Serve at cellar temperature after decanting for two hours.

Norman Vineyards:
Welcome to Norman Vineyards, a small family owned winery in the beautiful hills west of Paso Robles on California’s Central Coast. We’ve been growing grapes here for over 30 years, and making wine for over 15. Our specialty over the years has been elegant Cabernet and Meritage, bold Zinfandels, Barbera, and Chardonnay. Along the way we’ve thrown in a few small production wines to keep it interesting, and now, Syrah, which joined our lineup in 2002.
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

I had this the other night and it was excellent, especially since it should have been a little past its prime. Soft tannins and strong red berry flavor.
