The 2007 Reserve Shiraz was sourced from a 45 year old vineyard and aged 18 months in French and American oak, 50% new. A saturated purple color, it reveals a brooding bouquet of pain grillé, lavender, incense, smoked meat, blueberry and licorice. Back-strapping yet light on its feet, it is impeccably balanced, exceptionally long, and very cellar worthy. Give it 6-8 months and drink this intellectually and sensually pleasing effort between 2015 and 2027.

The 2001 Shiraz Reserve is a riviting example of what is so exciting about old vine Shiraz. Produced from a 35-40 year old McLaren Vale vineyard, it possesses amazing aromatics, purity, texture, and richness. This 2001, which tips the scales at a lofty 15.8% alcohol, is intense and full-bodied as well as remarkably elegant for a wine of such mass and intensity. Its impenetrable inky/black/purple color is accompanied by explosive aromatics, and is bursting with deep, rich, well-balanced flavors revealing seamlessly integrated wood, alcohol, acidity, and tannin. Profoundly deep, rich, and intense, it will hit its peak in 3-4 years, and should last for 15+. This is truly compelling old vine Shiraz!

The 2006 Reserve Shiraz was sourced from a 45-year-old vineyard and aged for 18 months in small and large French and American oak. Opaque purple/black in color, it gives up a lavish perfume of smoke, mineral, game, bacon, and blueberry that leaps from the glass. Thick, opulent, and intense, it coats the mouth with savory fruit, spices, and a hint of chocolate. Seamless on the palate, it nevertheless conceals enough structure to evolve for a decade for those able to resist its immediate come-on. It should be at its best from 2012 to 2030.

The 2001 Shiraz Reserve "rocked" from cask. Produced from 35-40-year old vines, it exhibits an inky/black/purple color in addition to extraordinarily pure blueberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with smoke, graphite, and vanilla. Full-bodied, powerful, and dense, with accessibility as well as immense fruit in reserve, this thrilling wine should be at its finest between 2006-2015.
