I have been enjoying the Icon sauvignon blanc from Nobilo since their 2005 or 2006 bottlings, so when I read the high marks given the 2008 (WS loved it), I had to check it out. They're all great but this one is absolutely delicious. Perfect for hot summers, the nose explodes with lush, tropical fruit. It's like pineapple without that oversweet smell. The texture is crisp and clean, like cool spring water and it's a flavorful, fruit forward taste. If you like the more mineral and grassy tasting sauv blancs, this one won't please you as much, but I say try it. It's really a great drinking wine for about $14. I plan to get more and enjoy the '08 vintage while I can still get it.
Nice wine. Nose: Intense tropical flavors Palate: Light, fresh, crisp
I had to review it again. Still just about my all time favorite. Those Kiwis can produce some stellar sauv blanc! Pale lemon in the glass. Highly aromatic as usual. Powerful flavor intensity. Crisp and elegant. Peach, pineapple, melon, orange mix well with the grassy, herbal and mineral tones. Such a nice, harmonious balance. Long lingering finish. Very highly recommended. We'll see if 2009 out now compares. - Schreiner's Winers "Springtime Sauvignon Blanc" Tasting 3/12/10
Solid summer wine. Pale yellow in color with green hues. Aromas of grapefruit with some mineral notes. The taste is flavorful, well-balanced and spicy. There is a hint of lemon on the palate and green apple. The finish is long, clean and zingy with a bit sour apple.
I really disliked this, but my husband loved it. I like a soft, supple sauv blanc, but this tasted a little metallic to me.
Great value especially for summertime. Good acidity, subtle citrus, could use a little more umph but overall a very nice wine.
Pure grapefruit on the nose. Definite grapefruit flavors up front with other citrus flavors on the midpalate. Once it warmed in the glass I noticed a minerality on the backend, along with citrus rind. Good acidity and complexity for the price. Would definitely drink again.

Back on form after the disappointing 2008, Nobilo's Icon deftly combines hints of honey and stone fruit with a leafy overlay of herbal flavors. It's medium bodied, with a finish that's tinged with tobacco leaf.
A brilliant burst of lime, grapefruit and green apple rides easily on a racy, acidity-fueled texture, persisting into the long, vibrant finish with hints of wet stone and citrus peel. Drink now.
A solid effort, but given the resources of the parent company, there's no reason why this couldn't be better. Passion fruit and grapefruit aromas lead off, followed by modest peach and melon flavors that finish sternly citric and somewhat green.
Strongly herbal, with green pepper overtones to the pineapple and tropical fruit flavors. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.
winemaker's notes: Light yellow in color with green hues and brilliant clarity. A distinctive bouquet of ripe tropical and citrus fruit. Nobilo Regional Collection Sauvignon Blanc is bursting with flavors of lemon, passion fruit, and melon. Crisp and zesty, the palate has excellent weight and balance, lingering in a full, refreshing finish.
Nobilo's 2009 Icon Sauvignon Blanc practically explodes with grass and capsicum aromas plus some hemp, wet straw and touches of yuzu zest and asparagus tips. Medium bodied with a good backbone of high acid, this is well made with a long finish though it relies just a little too much on green/pyrazine characters to warrant a higher score. Drink now while it's this fresh.
Pale green-tinged color. Flinty, leesy nose hints at creamy tropical fruits. Fat and ripe but kept fresh by good acidity. This offers much more palate impact than Nobilo's basic sauvignon bottling. Finishes round and persistent, with a slight sweetness. Nobilo's Icon wines represent selections in the winery of the strongest lots.
