Nobilo Icon Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Editorial Review by Snooth Editorial:

Herbal lemongrass and green pepper aromas with fresh citrus notes that are quite aromatic. Fresh and lively on the palate, this is emblematic of Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - herbal, citrusy and expressive with warm fruit and zesty acidity, finishing clean and light with lengthy grassy notes.

Fizzled out like a bad episode of the simpsons. The initial nose in the bowl was airy and fun. Crisp. However within a few minutes it fell flat on its face. Any hint of a good nose just kinda fell off. Tasting it initially was the same situation. Not bad. Zesty and clear, however the high acidity needs to be put in check. Didnt really enjoy it.

The usual grassy, gooseberry nose with some slight cat pee. Almost a hoppy herbaceousness and some wet stone notes as well. On the palate, good weight. Crisp, fresh acidity grabs you right away and flinty flavors with green apple, lime, apricot and honeydew. Zippy and bright with fresh flavors, ending on a bay leaf note with lingering sweet fruit. Still one of my go-to SBs. 94 pts.

Super aromatic, as this wine usually is! Nose full of grapefruit, gooseberry and an almost deterring amount of cat pee. Crisp, lively flavors of lime, grapefruit and gooseberry. Texture is driven by acidity. Hints of wet stone, citrus peel. The huge cat pee nuance stays throughout the whole experience. That's the only downside, from this getting my usual higher score for this wine. 2/18/12

Grassy and zesty, but not so much acid that you feel like you are having alcoholic limeade. A lovely bit of citrus, a nice choice if your movies have a summer salad or are experimenting with Sushi! This made it into my Top Five Wines to include as Alternative White Blend for VIP Movie Theaters!

Crisp and just right for a warm summer day! Not too sweet or dry. Very glad I tried this one!

Lovely, smooth wine with a full round finish - perfectly complimentary to the sweetness of scallops or any seafood.

Full flavor with solid nose, texture and finish; ridiculously concentrated fruits, especially citrus. Great value.

AROMA: The warmish 2014 vintage provided ripe kaffir lime and banana aromas that complement the classic fresh herb, lime leaf, jalapeño herbal tones. PALATE: Supremely elegant yet powerful Sauvignon Blanc with a taut, linear structure, dense concentration balanced by racy acidity and classical wet stone minerality. FOOD PAIRING: Pan-seared monkfish with fresh asparagus. FROM FOUR SPECIAL VINEYARDS: 100% Marlborough fruit from Nobilo’s four finest Sauvignon Blanc vineyards: Castle Cliffs - Awatere Valley Outstanding site by the ocean, exposed to the cool, invigorating Antarctic winds. Provided classic Awatere characters of citrus, minerality, and tomato leaf as well as pineapple, peach, and boxwood complexity. Lulworth Farm - Awatere Valley Near Ward, at the very south of the Awatere Valley, this vineyard is located on a gentle slope in rolling farmland. Produces fruit with white currant, fresh herb, and citrus flavors and elegant minerality. Bedford Estate - Upper Wairau Valley Old vines planted in 1995 result in very low yields, providing ripe tropical and guava fruit elements and a lovely mineral thread. Aberharts Road Vineyard - Lower Wairau Valley A range of vine ages provides complex passion fruit, peach, herb, citrus, and mineral driven flavors, with great richness, palate weight balance, and length. ARTISAN WINEMAKING: Each vineyard block was harvested and fermented separately in small tanks, then kept separate throughout. Fermentation was cool for a prolonged period, utilizing a variety of yeasts known to accentuate a complex array of aromas and fl avors, and to develop the sumptuous, mouthfilling palate for which Nobilo Icon Sauvignon Blanc is renowned.

A wine that evoked no consensus among our tasters. Is more less or is it more? The nose is rich and packed full of asparagus, canned pea and pickled bell pepper, and the palate is thick and syrupy. One reviewer called it ?good within the paradigm;? another found it mushy and lacking in balance. Imported by Pacific Wine Partners.

Nikola Nobilo, having arrived in New Zealand from Croatia, planted his first vines and began to turn a dream into reality in 1943. Nikola was an early champion of premium New Zealand varietals.

On the tart side, with ripe pineapple and lively passion fruit flavors competing for attention, hinting at pea shoots on the juicy finish. Drink now.

Back on form after the disappointing 2008, Nobilo's Icon deftly combines hints of honey and stone fruit with a leafy overlay of herbal flavors. It's medium bodied, with a finish that's tinged with tobacco leaf.
