Nieto Senetiner Bonarda Mendoza 2010

Member Review by tabednar:

One of the better Malbec I have had and a steal at this price. Deep ruby red in color. Strong aroma of red fruits will slight hints of vanilla. Medium mouth feel with nice intensity. Black current and chocolate palate blended well with the American oak used. Young tannins but compliment the wine well. Worth getting. I will be getting another few bottles.

Little harsh on the nose at first but opens up nicely if you give it a few minutes to breathe. Black licorice, pepper and spice on the nose. A little currant and blackberry as well. Beautiful dark purple color, almost like taking 2 parts violet fingerpaint and adding one part black paint. Mix it together and that's what you see. Nice plum on the palate and there's a slight sweetness to it. I had to look at the label again but nothing indicates any residual sugars. I certainly wasn't expecting that. Good gripping tannins with a nice long finish. Great dark chocolate and coffee on the finish too. Excellent QPR, which I'm finding is quite common from our friends in South America. There are some great (and cheap) wines coming from Argentina and Chile these days....Try some S. American Cabs sometime. There's some sub $15 ones that rival $40+ Napa Cabs.
