Niepoort Twisted Tinto Douro 2010

Vibrant and juicy, with notes of white pepper to the currant, red berry and cranberry flavors. The crisp finish has accents of iron and stone, and this shows fine balance and focus. Drink now through 2016. 587 cases imported. -KM The 2010 TWISTED red is a Douro blend, not all specified (as often happens in Douro field blends), including Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Amarela and Tinta Cao, aged mostly in tank (25% was aged in old oak for 14 months). This is quite a nice Twisted in the modestly concentrated 2010 vintage. In the best years, Twisted is always on the lighter side, never particularly concentrated, of course. I wondered what would happen here in 2010--it holds up beautifully, is the short answer. This year's version has a bit of tannic punch on the finish in the wine's early days, plus a charmingly juicy, pure and stone-washed finish.
