Niepoort Port Blend Porto Vintage 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

Fine, elegant, mineral but not balsamic. The taste continues fine, agressive and with tannins, rich but not excessive and with a long final. Impressive finesse even though robust.

Niepoort Vinhos:
Niepoort’s mission is to preserve the niche player position and continue to create great Port and Douro wines bringing together secular tradition and innovation.

A harmonious, powerful young thing. Super aromas of flowers and berries, with hints of wet earth and tobacco. Full-bodied and racy, with loads of silky tannins and a long, long finish. Medium sweet. It builds on your palate and then, wham. Serious stuff. Best after 2011.

A prodigious effort from a small house that's becoming one of the Douro's best. The fruit is massive; huge and inky and filled with blackberries and chocolate. Yet for all its size, it finishes with finesse-filled layers of flavor that fold in mint and black pepper notes.

[Barrel tasting] This is wonderful, with fabulous aromas of crushed blueberries and blackberries. It’s full-bodied, medium-sweet and seductively silky. It goes on and on on the palate.

Ruby-purple, a bit more saturated than the Secundum. Brooding aromas of crushed black fruits, licorice and spices. Very ripe, thick and dense, with compelling sweetness of fruit. Bright, integrated acid give this lush, fleshy, palate-coating wine excellent tensile strength. Finishes impressively long and bright, with finely grained, mouthdusting tannins. This has a terrific kernel of fruit and a three-dimensional palate feel.
