Niels Verburg Shiraz 2004

External Review by Prestige Wine & Spirits:

Absolutely deserving of every one of the 91 points from Tanzer! Richly textured with luscious juicy black fruit flavors peppered with tantalizing hints of cranberry pomegranate and a mixed bag of spices. The Niels Verburg echoes the New World fruit while maintaining the grape’s French roots through the dense forest of smoky/earthy notes. This wine is a steal at $33 — I’d pay $50 easily. Super buy!

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Plums and spice on entry, followed by a richness of natural fruit sweetness. All these flavors are backed by fine tannins and balanced wood use. Not yet rated.

Ruby-red. Subdued, cool aroma of black raspberry, dark chocolate and mint, lifted by cinnamon spice. Dense, suave and pliant. Plump and deep but not at all a blockbuster (it’s actually a moderate 13.6% alcohol). This spreads out impressively to coat the palate, while maintaining good definition to its dark fruit flavors. Finishes with very fine tannins and subtle length. More sophisticated and graceful that the first vintages of this wine, which is bottled under the Luddite Wines label in South Africa. This spent 60 days on the skins after the end of the fermentation.
