- Winemaker Notes: Francis Coppola Bianco begins with Chardonnay grown on the coast of California as its foundation. The most popular white grape variety in the world today, Chardonnay is an aristocrat with both breeding and body, beloved for its citrus and tropical notes, offering mid-palate structure and length. Bianco is transformed from ‘just Chardonnay’ by the addition of small percentages of three very aromatic and enticing grape varieties: Malvasia, Muscat and Riesling. These make themselves known on the nose, adding aromas of honeysuckle, apricots, and honey. These heady read more...flavors make Bianco wonderful as an aperitif—its exotic character keeps the palate interested and engaged. "We feel that blending adds uniqueness to the wine--there are a lot of Chardonnays out there, but only one Coppola Bianco," says Winemaker Scott McLeod. "Blending adds flavor, texture and aromas that often cannot be achieved with just one grape variety.” And since wine is really meant to go with food, Bianco becomes the perfect foil for more assertive, spicy fusion fare.
