What to Expect

Champagne is specifically a sparkling wine made in the Champagne region of France; every other sparkling is simply that, sparkling wine. Made to be aged for a few to many years, in many languages "Champagne" is synonymous with "party". When young, Champagne exhibits the fresh fruit tones of its "cepage", or blend. Usually based on a blend the features either Chardonnay or Pinot Noir as its main ingredient, Champagne's fruit can range from citrusy to orchard fruits and even red berries. The wine gains distinct yeasty notes from its secondary fermentation, the one that adds the fizz, which is typically described as recalling brioche or bread. As it ages Champagne tends to lose its obvious fruit, which is replaced by subtle nutty tones and subdued elements of dried fruits.

Like a breath of fresh air, this wispy Champagne energizes the palate with its floral, ginger and bread dough notes. Well-proportioned and harmonious, it ends with a mouthwatering tang. Drink now.(WS)

Staff Selection! We like this Champagne for it's apricot and almond aromatics, it's nice tight bubbles and it's light peach appeal on the palate. A very easy going Champagne, not yeasty and not toasty but rather the opposite side of the flavor spectrum. - 88 pts from Wine Spectator! "A touch creamy in aroma, giving way to peach and grapefruit notes. On the lighter side, with floral and herbal elements peeking through. Appealing. Drink now through 2010. BS Dec 31st, 2007 Issue

The quintessential Champagne and the standard bearer of Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte. Assemblage: 20% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir, and 40% Pinot Meunier. Appearance: a golden yellow color. Aroma and bouquet: a floral nose with apple, pear, almond and hazelnut notes. Palate: an elegant and well-balanced Champagne. Fresh citrus aromas with a whiff of clove. Soft and somewhat full on the palate with ripe peach and brown sugar flavors. Fresh acidity kicks up in the close coupled with a drying flintiness. -Wine News
