Nickel & Nickel has earned its reputation as a top-notch Napa Valley winery by producing vintage after vintage of exceptional, single-vineyard wines. The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon from the tiny, four-acre Dragonfly Vineyard at the base of Spring Mountain, is a perfect example. The site is located in the "banana belt" microclimate, where fruit develops super-ripe and jammy. It carries over from vine to wine in this sultry red, like a basketful of summer berries in your glass. Sweet vanilla and cedar notes support the fruit, as does the silky texture from 16 months in French oak barrels.
