Wine Tasting NotesThis has got to be one of the best Rock Cairn wines that we have made to date. The concentration of this wine has a rich, coating quality beyond compare. Rooted in the famous loam soils of Oakville, Rock Cairn is a richly structured and powerful wine, showing ripe aromas and flavors of cassis, black cherry and anise. Notes of plum, cherry, olive and mineral emerge, giving depth to the texture, while the oak supports and expands the middle palate, and the mature tannins give length to the finish.

Vineyard Description: Planted in 1984, Rock Cairn lies near the southern edge of the Oakville appellation, east of Highway 29 and north of the town of Yountville. This vineyard is named for the ?cairns? or piles of rocks that were formed long ago

Winemaker's Notes:

Vineyard Description: The Regusci Vineyard is nestled against the Vaca Mountain range on the eastern side of Napa Valley in the Stags Leap District. Nickel & Nickel makes Regusci Cabernet from Block 4, a tiny three-acre section of the 43-acre vineyard. It has a western exposure and a gentle slope that aids drainage. The soil is made up of weathered volcanic materials that are mixed with gravel and produce vines of moderate vigor with average-size clusters. Stags Leap has wonderful, warm temperatures moderated by cool, afternoon breezes, so the fruit experiences ideal conditions throughout the growing season. Harvest Notes: The 2005 growing season was two weeks behind 2004 with budbreak in late March and bloom in late May. Conditions were ideal during bloom and the vineyard had a good "set," which resulted in a bit more fruit than last year. The summer months were very moderate and we didn't get the few heat waves that really bump up the sugars. Although there was a little heat in late September and early October, the fruit needed the extra hang time to fully develop the tannins. We harvested this vineyard in early November, just as the leaves started to change color. Months in barrel: 16 months
