Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Sauvignon John C. Sullenger Vyd. Oakville 2014

External Review by WineExpress.com:

Nickel & Nickel Winery was started with the idea of producing only extraordinary single vineyard Napa Valley wines. Each one is very low production and from unique sub-appellations throughout the Valley. The home vineyard of Nickel & Nickel, Sullenger Vineyard is situated behind the winery in the heart of Oakville and is named for John C. Sullenger, who settled the farmstead in the 1880's. The vineyard's 30 acres of clay loam soil planted exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon. This is Nickel & Nickel's signature wine with ultra-ripe fruit and classic Oakville structure. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 17 months in 53% new French oak. 97 points for this from Wine Review Online who said " Another trophy case wine from Nickel & Nickel, who continue to solidify their reputation as one of Napa's top producers. It's a wine to take time to experience, as the aromas are richly layered and require a little digging to get at. Under olive and damp earth tones lie seductive blackberry and currant, with soft vanilla, dried herb and spice. These all come together on the palate, riding a rich texture and structured acidity through a long, mind bending finish that keeps you reaching for descriptors. Winemaker Darice Spinelli has a way of nurturing each of the wineries' sites to unique expressions."

Wine Enthusiast Magazine just scored it 94 points saying "A velvety texture makes this varietal wine luxurious. Cassis, tar and clove notes mingle with dried herb and black olive flavors, all integrated and deliciously graceful. Its robust tannins soften as it progresses toward a long finish."
