Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Sauvignon John C. Sullenger Vineyard 2014

External Review:

Nickel & Nickel Winery was started with the idea of producing only extraordinary single vineyard Napa Valley wines. Each one is very low production and from unique sub-appellations throughout the Valley. The home vineyard of Nickel & Nickel, Sullenger Vineyard is situated behind the winery in the heart of Oakville and is named for John C. Sullenger, who settled the farmstead in the 1880’s. The vineyard’s 30 acres of clay loam soil planted exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon. This is Nickel & Nickel’s signature wine with ultra-ripe fruit and classic Oakville structure. Black cherry fruit layered with sweet herb, spice and cedar play bath the palate and linger on the finish. Drinks well now, but will continue to develop for 8-12 years. Robert Parker just scored it 91+ saying "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon John C. Sullenger is a softer wine than the Hayne, shows nice dark plum, black cherry, blackcurrant fruit, forest floor and a bit of spice. It is medium to full-bodied, shows light to moderate tannin and will better in 2-3 years than it shows now. The wine is long, with lots of upside potential."

This smells like Bordeaux from the cassis and earth all the way to the foresty aromas that some might even call green. The palate is a smooth ride of currant plum and bitter chocolate all with a cool herbal underbelly. Wine Enthusiast.
