Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Vogt Vineyard 2008
Established in 1997 by the partners of Far Niente, Nickel & Nickel is based on a philosophy of producing 100 percent varietal, single-vineyard wines that best express the distinct personality of each vineyard. It is from some of the most coveted vineyards in the Napa and Sonoma valleys that the Nickel & Nickel wines are produced.
Dark red plum color. “Heavy,” oaky nose. Dark berry fruit on entry. Probably, the most interesting thing about this wine is that it has a nice smooth mouth-feel on entry. Then, mid-palate still serious tannin pops up. This gives it a “rougher” mouth-feel. Once you get past that, there are nice sensations on the back palate—berries, again, and a long, lingering aftertaste.
One of my favorite Howell Mountain Cabs... Huge berry fruit, very dark, tight right now, but has huge potential. Loved it.
first taste of nickel and nickel. very powerful, lovely aroma. stayed long in the mouth.

Good full ruby. Aromas of crushed blackberry and blueberry, bitter chocolate, mocha and licorice. The palate offers a plush, sweet wave of primary fruit, showing lovely lift and grip and impressive energy. Sweeter than the 2007 today if perhaps a ... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2008 Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Sauvignon Vogt Vineyard 750ml
The 2008 Vogt Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic Howell Mountain Cabernet. Distinctive, dark fruit flavors of blackberry and cassis are complemented by notes of floral and spice. The smaller berries from this vintage offer a rich core of both fruit and tannin, while hints of tar and earth add layers of interest. French oak blends beautifully with the ripe fruit and, combined with the abundantly fine tannins from this vintage, carries those flavors into a long, chewy finish.
Gil Nickel of Far Niente produces extraordinary single vineyard Napa Valley Cabs under his Nickel & Nickel label, each is a very low prodction wine from a unique sub-appellation in Napa Valley. Nickel's only Howell Mountain offering comes from the 15 acre Vogt Vineyard, planted in 1997. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 93 points and said "This densely structured wine is so dry and tannic the palate just puckers up into resistance. Buried deep down are massive and properly proportioned flavors of blackberries, black currants, dark unsweetened chocolate and smoky new oak. This intense 100% Cabernet should begin to blossom by 2012 and last for many years." Very Limited!
Wine Tasting NotesDark and bold with aromas of white blossom, spice and cedar. Firm and impressive, this wine opens with jammy flavors of boysenberry and cassis with a floral essence that is almost citrusy. Layers of clove, cedar and tobacco encompassed by big, yet rounded, tannins add weight and length to the finish.
