Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Vogt Vineyard 2003
APPELLATION: Oakville, Napa Valley VARIETAL: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon FERMENTATION: Typical for red wine AGING: French oak barrels (65% new, 35% once-used) HARVEST DATE: October 20, 2003 RELEASE DATE: September 2006 SKIN CONTACT: 16 days TIME: 18 months FIRST VINTAGE: 1997 Slightly higher rainfall in the early part of the year allowed for a little more growth on this vineyard in 2003. We offset this growth by coming back and removing suckers as well as using rigid irrigation control. The vines looked good and the vineyard was on track as in a normal year. Crop levels were “spot on” and the season looked very promising. Although we experienced a few heat spikes in August and September, the average temperatures were cooler than normal for 2003. Fruit flavors were slow to develop but they eventually came around in late October with the nice, jammy flavors and sweet tannins that we were looking for. Martin Stelling Cabernet is a wine that clearly stands out with its distinctive, perfumed aromas of sweet berry and spice. Rich and jammy, this wine is loaded with ripe blackberry and cassis fruit, topped off with spice and vanilla from the oak. Hints of chocolate add layers to the coating, middle palate. Classically elegant, yet concentrated and jammy, the wine’s beautiful structure, complexity and silky tannins marry with the oak, creating layers of interest that progress into a very long finish.
Established in 1997 by the partners of Far Niente, Nickel & Nickel is based on a philosophy of producing 100 percent varietal, single-vineyard wines that best express the distinct personality of each vineyard. It is from some of the most coveted vineyards in the Napa and Sonoma valleys that the Nickel & Nickel wines are produced.

A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2003 Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Sauvignon Vogt Vineyard 750ml
A stylish classic 100% Cabernet Sauvignon this 2003 exhibits earthy cassis blueberry liqueur and new saddle leather notes in its full-bodied tannic personality. Still young and unevolved but revealing lots of potential this impressive wine builds incrementally and finishes with heady alcohol (14.6%). It should hit its peak in 4-5 years and last for another 15-20. - RP Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
