Gil Nickel of Far Niente produces extraordinary single vineyard Napa Valley Cabs under his Nickel & Nickel label, each is a very low production wine from a unique sub-appellation in Napa Valley. The winery is located near the Oakville Crossroad and several of their best vineyards are in the Oakville AVA, including Branding Iron. The eight-and-a-half-acre Vineyard lies in western Oakville close to the base of the Mayacamas Mountains. The vineyard is comprised of well-drained clay loam. The area’s warm climate and ideal sun exposure allow for perfect slow ripening of the fruit. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was aged 18 months in half new and half one-year-old French oak barrels. The Wine Enthusiast scored this 93 points saying "The Branding Iron Vineyard is located in western Oakville, in the company of some of the greatest names in Napa Valley. The wine is 100% varietal, aged in new and one-year-old oak. In the mouth, it’s plush and opulent, with massive blackberry and blueberry fruit, but very tannic, in the Nickel & Nickel style. This is a wine that needs cellaring. Best after 2018, and should be singing by 2020." Extremely Limited!

Nickel and Nickel Brading Iron Cabernet comes from a vineyard just south of the infamous Martha's Vineyard. Very harmonious red and black fruit character with pleasant toastly oak and a lengthy finish.

The 2008 Tench Cabernet Sauvignon displays bright boysenberry and blueberry fruits, which are special characteristics of this rocky terrain. Sweet vanillin from the French oak enhances the fruit and produces a beautiful middle palate. The fine tannins from this vintage add volume and carry those ripe fruit flavors into a lengthy finish.

Wine Tasting NotesThe Tench Vineyard Cabernet combines sweet blueberry and boysenberry flavors that are in harmony with a background of spice and herb. This wine is quite elegant and well balanced between the juicy fruit and the sweet vanilla from the oak. Its coating, velvety texture is expansive and refreshing as the soft, supple tannins carry the flavors into a long, sweet finish.

Wine Tasting NotesRound and polished, opens with a mouthful of cherry and cranberry fruit mixed with notes of herb and dried tea. Toasted oak fills the middle palate with notes of spice and smoke, while the soft tannins finish with harmony and grace.
