Awesome Napa blend from Newton. First tried this at a tasting at Newton and thought this was the best of the lot. This blend varies every year depending on the quality of the individual grapes to be blended. This '08 is a well integrated blend of mainly merlot and cab sauv. Loads of dark fruit, medium tannins, nice acidity, lots of layers and a great finish.

(a five-variety Bordeaux blend): Good red-ruby color. Deep aromas of plum, redcurrant, graphite and cocoa; much less obviously oaky than the 2008 unfiltered cabernet. Then plush but shapely in the mouth, with harmonious acidity framing the flavors of currant, plum, chocolate, tobacco and wild herbs. Rich and sweet but still youthfully subdued. This big, broad, restrained wine finishes with dusty tannins and excellent subtle persistence. Classy and claret-like. I would not have guessed this was carrying 15% alcohol. A blend of 42% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec, the 2008 The Puzzle offers up notes of burning embers, charcoal, Chinese black tea, spice and earth. The complex aromatics are followed by a medium-bodied, elegant, Bordeaux-like wine that is still somewhat restrained and discrete. It should drink well for a decade. - Robert Parker 89+ Points Couldn't get any riper, with a...

(a blend of 56% cabernet sauvignon, 33% merlot, 8% petit verdot and 3% cabernet franc): Good bright ruby. Aromas of plum, dried cherry, leather, dark chocolate, coffee and mocha. Sweet and broad, showing a strong oakiness to the flavors of cassis, leather, licorice, espresso and German chocolate cake. Offers a fine-grained texture but slightly edgy acidity and strong dusty, building tannins will require several years to harmonize. Today the $25 Claret is a lot more fun to drink. (A second sample of equal quality showed stronger oak spices but a somewhat mellower finish.) ** Only 3 in Stock **
