Newton Chardonnay Napa Valley Unfiltered 2008
External Reviews for Newton Chardonnay Napa Valley Unfiltered
Newton Vineyards is recognized as an American pioneer of unfiltered wines, a philosophy that adds complexity to the winemaking process and demands meticulousness and attention to detail, but maximizes all the subtle characters of the fruit. Grapes for this profound and powerful Chardonnay are grown on the Newton estate in the Carneros region and other marine-influenced sites where bay breezes and morning fog combine to create the cooler climate idea for full and rich flavor development. Scored 93 by the Wine Spectator who said "A very distinctive and exotic style that’s well-executed. Ultrarich and creamy, offering a medley of butterscotch, fig, roasted marshmallow and honeysuckle flavors, ending with a lingering finish. Drink now through 2015"
This wine opens with a bright nose of fresh fruit and floral aromas of honey blossom that lead to earthy bread dough and hazelnut. Pear, melon and fig are introduced on the palate with balanced acidity and creaminess.
'A classic expression of unfiltered Chardonnay; this rich and powerful wine opens with aromas of citrus flowers, coconut, butterscotch and roasted almonds. On the palate the wine combines butter and oak with layers of peach, mango and honey and a touch of mineral on the finish. To fully enjoy the rich intensity of this wine, serve it with simply prepared succulent dishes such as broiled monk fish, braised pork with apples, or salmon with tarragon aioli.' -Winery
