Neudorf Sauvignon Blanc Nelson 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

Intense and highly aromatic, zingy with hints ofblackcurrants and limes with a touch of complexing flintiness. The entry to the wine is textured andit rolls smoothly across the palate to a full creamy finish. At Neudorf the pursuit of Sauvignon Blanc with elegance isa driving force and we use a small amount of barrel fermentto produce some richness in the wine without losing thedistinctive cool climate freshness.Drink it with fresh mussels cooked over an open fire, serveit with fresh oysters or crispy fish and chips (add a squeeze of lemon). It is also damned fine on its own to celebrate at the end of the day.Notes from the Winery www.neudorf.co.nzI cannot think of another New Zealand wine producer thathas been making top wines across their entire range asconsistently as Neudorf over three decades.” Bob Campbell Master of Wine

1978 and the New Zealand fine wine industry was almost non existent. We (Tim and I) pioneers-bigwere fresh from the “back to the land” movement of the late sixties. We wanted to make beautiful wine. We figured Tim’s masters in Animal Behaviour along with my unimpressive journalism career would be beneficial. Wrong. However we did have youth (temporary), self belief (unwarranted) and friends. At one stage we had four mortgages and three jobs each. Because there was so little known about basic viticulture in New Zealand we planted many varieties to see which ones were best suited to our soils. Merlot came and went as did Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc and the dreaded Muller Thurgau. We were a bit hasty in rejecting Gewürztraminer and may look at that again. But we did it. We, and a whole heap of people – neighbours, family, friends and some fantastic staff. Each left a mark and many have gone onto work in bigger wineries or plant their own vineyard. Today 31 years later and we never feel we have it all sorted. We built our winery in 1980 with the intermittent help of a young chippie from down the road, using macrocarpa milled on site. Adapted from the orginal stables (circa 1850), it has been described by one writer as “an elegant shed” and houses the wine bar, office and white winery. At the back is a vineyard garden featuring an enormous Acer Negundo – perfect for climbing. Read less

Kiwi at first and then almost apricot, with pear and white orchard fruits covered with lime leaf and grapefruit pith notes. Super bright and very fine on entry with very clear grapefruit and passion fruit flavors. Fine acid adds length with a little old wood here adding roundness. There’s a nice return on the finale of pithy though sweet fruit. Almost salty, savory, Fino sherry type umami on finale. 90pts

Soft, dry Sauvignon Blanc with appealing purity. Gentle mineral salt, lemon grass, Gala apple and a suggestion of floral and nut flavours. Elegant, complex wine with character and individuality. Pale yellow. White pepper, spices and dusty minerality on the nose. Then surprisingly sweet and pliant on the palate, with strong, persistent flavors of citrus and white stone fruits. Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Sauvignon Blanc wine from Nelson in New Zealand. 2010 Neudorf Sauvignon Blanc 750ml

Neudorf's 2008 Savvy is a plump, rounded wine, filled with ample melon fruit and tinged with peach and citrus. There's also a smoky, grassy element to the aroma that adds a bit more varietal character and complexity. Nicely done. - J.C. Wine Enthusiast. The 2007 Sauvignon Blanc has a vibrant nose with hints of tropical fruit: orange zest and apricot with subtle herbaceous tones on the palate, a more nuanced take on the grape than the 2006 Sauvignon Blanc.
