User Reviews for Neudorf Riesling Waimea Plains Brightwater

Winemaker's Notes:

Since founding the estate in 1978 on the north-facing slopes of the Moutere Valley, at the top of the South Island, Tim and Judy Linn have created an international reputation for all their wines: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Riesling. The vineyards are dry farmed on gravelly, clay-rich soils. Nelson is one of the sunniest parts of New Zealand and the warm summers, extending into cooler autumn nights, produce intense and rich-textured wines. This wine is full of the wonderful characters of Riesling - citrus zest and lemon curd on the nose with an undercurrent of deep minerality. This gives the wine a strong “sense of place” - the gravel threaded soils of Brightwater carry right through to your glass. A fine linear wine with a delicate lifted character. It reminds one of Nina Ricci’s “L’Air Du Temps”. There's even a suggestionof a hit of Gin and Tonic! Perhaps that citrus splash carries a note of quinine. Either is a truly expressive and very lovely wine.
