Neprica. Tormaresca 2015

External Review:

From Antinori comes this incredibly delicious perpetual Best Buy. The 2010 was named by Food & Wine Magazine one of the Top 10 Best Bargain Wines in the World! "An absurd value!" Neprica is a blend of 40% Negroamaro 30% Primitivo and 30% Cabernet from Antinori’s two estates in Puglia. Of course Negroamaro is the ubiquitous native variety found in virtually ever Puglia wine including the very popular Salice Salentino. Leave it to the masters at Antinori to blend in Cabernet to give it international class and style.

Viticulture in Puglia is history and at the same time innovation. Cultivation of wines started thousands of years ago, at the time of "Magna Grecia", to which the Greek origins of many names of Apulian grape varieties attests. Tradition continues through the presence of native varieties such as Negroamaro, Aglianico and Primitivo, both true expressions of a strong and extra-ordinary vital territory. The production of high quality wines is related to recent steps towards innovation and creativity: substantial changes have been obtained through the use of modern viticulture techniques and the introduction of non native grape varieties (i.e. Chardonnay and Cabernet) that express themselves in this "terroir" in a completely unique way. Tormaresca is the expression of the above two souls. Character, personality and top quality are the characteristics that Puglia transmits to the native grape varieties. For this reason the Antinori family gave birth to Tormaresca in 1998 when they started investing in Puglia, considering it one of the most promising regions in Italy for the production of high quality wines with a strong territorial identity. Fruit forward and very smooth. Light acidity with smooth tannins. Would not of guessed this to be an Italian wine.

very interesting blend, I think the best pairing will be grill meat or even grill fish! I don't really know why but I wanna have a grilled sea bass with this wine... Good european-style balance in everything, try it!

Neprica is an awesome blend of Negroamaro, Primitivo and Cabernet Sauvignon from southern Italy that offers an unbeatable price versus quality ratio. This rising star of Puglia would pair with meats, pasta or aged cheese and offers clean aromas of ripe fruit, spice and leather.

TASTING NOTES: Brilliantly ruby red in color the wine has aromas of red berry fruits, plums, black cherries and violets. It is supple and harmonious on the palate, with bright acidity and balanced tannins. VINTAGE: • The 2012 summer months were very cool through July resulting a delayed ripening. Veraison taking place 20 days later than the previous year. • The warm August weather sped up the vegetative cycle and brought it back to a normal pace. VINEYARD HISTORY: • Tormaresca was founded in 1998 with the investment and vision of the Antinori family in Italy’s Puglia region. • The Tormaresca estate is comprised of two properties: Boca di Lupo is 820 feet above sea level and is located in Murgia. Masseria Maime is located in the Salento region. • Neprica is produced from grapes from both estates. VINIFICATION • The grapes were picked at the optimal degree of ripeness and vinified separately in thermo-conditioned stainless steel tanks. • The maceration lasted between eight and ten days. • Malolactic fermentation was completed by the beginning of winter. • The wine was refined for eight months in stainless steel tanks and at least four months in the bottle. BLEND: 40% Negroamaro 30% Primitivo 30% Cabernet Sauvignon ALCOHOL: 13.5% Vol.

Round and fruity, with jammy plum, spice and light herb notes that lead to a rich finish. Negroamaro, Primitivo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now.

With its sweet, raisined fruit surrounded by chocolate-rich tannins, this is a rounded, black wine with a slight prickle at the end. A blend of negroamaro (40 percent), primitivo and cabernet sauvignon, this is built for braises.

You cannot get better value than this. Ripe berry notes, cassis, molasses and cola serve as a preface for the thick texture and smooth density that this wine delivers to the palate. The wine is thick and succulent with smooth tannins and great length: excellent quality for this very low price.' -Wine Enthusiast
