Nelms Road Cabernet 2012
In 1998, Woodward Canyon Winery began producing wines under its second label, Nelms Road. Nelms Road offers merlot and cabernet sauvignon from Walla Walla Valley and Washington State grapes. It was developed to produce delicious and affordable red wine from young vineyards or declassified Woodward Canyon Winery production. While these wines may be cellared for several years, they are truly ready for enjoyment now.
The color of this wine is a gorgeous ruby red with a lovely brightness along the edges. The nose is sublime, with notes of ripe dark fruit throughout, blackberries and currant over hints of dark chocolate and cherry cola. The taste is wonderful, warm and bright, it almost feels like your tasting a late summer day just before harvest. The lovely berry fruit lingers through the midpalate until you begin to taste some coarse minerality of dusty limestone. The finish is long and lush, as the elegantly structured tannins provide a foundation for a finish that seems to last a minute or more. External Reviews for Nelms Road Cabernet
Soft and broad, with pretty currant and roasted meat flavors that linger against polished tannins. Drink now through 2013.
The blend includes presswine from the estate and other top vineyards; and the Cabernet, though dominant, is padded with an interesting mix of grapes, including some Italian varieties. It's deep, plummy, laced with complex flavors that begin with ripe and tangy red berries and black cherries, and lead into accents of coffee, earth and baking chocolate. The tangy natural acids keep this wine sharp and focused, and the Italian varieties seem to bump up the sweetness in the finish.
