Neil Ellis Sauvignon Blanc Sincerely 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

91 Points - WineReviewOnline This wine is a South African homage to Sancerre and in some vintages has been clearly outstanding in quality while also showing a plausible likeness to a Loire wine. 20

Neil Ellis Wines differs from most South African wineries in that instead of owning vineyards we have focused on producing the best wine possible and sourcing the grapes from top quality growers. Recognizing that different grape varieties thrive under different soil and climate conditions which are not likely to be found on a single estate, from our company's start our philosophy has been to locate those areas that produce a distinctive grape quality and work closely with quality-minded growers in those areas. Today our grapes come from three main vineyard sites: Oude Nektar Farm in Jonkershoek, Stellenbosch; Contreberg Farm in Groenekloof, Darling; the Whitehall farm in Elgin. Read less

91 Points - WineReviewOnline"This wine is a South African homage to Sancerre, and in some vintages, has been clearly outstanding in quality while also showing a plausible likeness to a Loire wine. 2009 is one of those vintages. The wine is extremely expressive in both aromatic and flavor terms, showing lots of grassy, herbal aromas and sharp citrus flavors, but also a vaguely mineral note in the finish that provides an echo of Sancerre. I didnt taste the wine blind, but would like to think that I wouldnt have been fooled about its origin even if I hadnt seen the label. However, I would definitely been fooled if I had tasted the wine without seeing its price tag, as this terrific wine is a real threat...to any Sauvignon I know of that is priced at $20."
