Neal Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2002

Winemaker's Notes:

When the 2002 wines were youngsters in early 2003, we recognized the fact that the intensity of color, flavor and structure were such that we expected a longer aging period was needed to achieve the balance we strive for. Just like in our farming operations, every procedure is determined by what the vines and wines require for the highest quality. Repeating the same formula as was used the previous year wont allow us to improve, and trying to stay within a schedule just for marketing purposes is not the way to make the best wine.We are releasing this vintage a bit later than the 2001 for just that reason: rich, concentrated black fruit, plus cocoa and coffee flavors, a deep and firm tannin structure, but elegant enough to enjoy young. We hope you agree that our patience has paid off.HARVEST INFORMATIONHarvest Dates: September 12, 2002 through November 12, 2002Vineyard Locations: Howell Mountain (organically grown), Atlas Peak, Mt. [Sparks] I tasted this at the winery 6 mos ago, and found it a little akward but with potential. Purchased 2 bottles. On this taste, experienced overwhelming oak, herbs, min red fruit. Not a huge fan, and not optimistic about my 3 bottles. Maybe I am just experiencing a fleeting hypersensitivity to oak.

Smooth, rich and polished, with concentrated layers of currant, mocha, vanilla and plum-laced fruit, supported by firm, ripe tannins, even showing a touch of leather on the finish. Best from 2006 through 2012. 2,500 cases made. (JL) Wine Spectator. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2002 Family, Neal Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml
