What to Expect

Argentina, and in particular the region around Mendoza, is making a name for itself as the source of some of the finest expressions of Malbec ever made. In this warm, yet dry climate the Malbec achieves near perfect ripeness endowing the wines with a velvety texture and intense flavors of blackberry, peppery spice, and balsamic herbs. The cooler, well-drained slopes of the hillsides of the region have proven to be ideally suited for Malbec, allowing for the wines to achieve a level of complexity and harmony that rivals those of Napa or Bordeaux.

Editorial Reviews

Appearing dark, dense and youthful in the glass this offers up effusive notes of oaken spice and toast notes with layers of dried plum and berry fruit. Gains complexity in the glass with some growing herb notes and a smoky, meaty core of fruit graced by vanilla top notes. Sweetly fruited on entry with a rich, round mouthfeel that combines polished tannins and lowish acidity that ultimately leaves the wine feeling a touch dead in the mouth. Finishes abruptly and while the core of fruit is nicely red and sweet the structure here just has a hard time supporting it. 86pts

a little jammy for me, but nice tannin and good berrry flavor. it was served a little warm so it oculd have been less jammy at a normal temp.

Navarro Correas, one of Argentina's top estates, sources fine Malbec from its Maipu vineyards in the Andean foothills, south of Mendoza city. Aged in French oak, this perennial Astor favorite is a soft, fruity red with engaging spicy character.

Appearance: Ruby, with purple disk. Tears are close to medium spaced out, thin and are form almost instantly.

Smell: Animal, leather, with oak. Red berries (don't know the exact berry in english, sorry).

Taste: Good sweetness, but a little rough in the mouth. The same red berry is present in the mouth. Oak. A lot of earth in the middle. Medium complexity. Lingers a bit but not too much.

Overall: I think it needs a little time in the bottle to reach its apex. I'm going to store a couple and drink one in about 3-5 years, when I think it's going to be at its best.
