Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Silver Oak 1994

Winemaker's Notes:

The 1994 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a dark ruby color. It has a rich, complex nose of blackberry liqueur, black plum, violets, nutmeg and soy sauce. This wine is full, elegant and silky on the palate with a long, slightly tannic finish. It is drinking well now and will continue to improve until 2016 given proper cellaring.

We pride ourselves on making one varietal that is food-friendly and deliciously drinkable upon release. Our story begins in the early 1970’s when Ray Duncan befriended winegrower Justin Meyer. The two formed a partnership and co-founded Silver Oak Cellars in 1972 with the bold vision of producing only Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, under the leadership of Ray’s sons David and Tim and Director of Winemaking Daniel Baron, we produce two wines: our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Silver Oak’s unwavering focus on making exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon enables us to continually improve and refine our craft. Each of our two estates – one in Napa Valley and the other in Alexander Valley – is dedicated to producing a single wine. These two Cabernet Sauvignons consistently reflect the very best of their appellations. Our estate vineyards are ideally situated to provide optimal growing conditions for our Cabernet Sauvignon. We also work closely with top independent growers throughout the Napa and Alexander Valleys to ensure a reliable source of excellent fruit. We complement this fruit with grapes from top independent growers throughout both appellations, giving our winemaking team the flexibility they need to realize the full potential of each Silver Oak vintage. Tasting Room Tasting rooms at both of our estates are open Monday – Saturday, 9am – 5pm and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.  We are closed  some holidays. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

This maybe the last good to very good wine Silver Oak made; I think its fair to say that demand far and away out weighs the return you get in the bottle.

Under the reign of Justin Meyer, Silver Oak Cellars has become one of the great success stories of California, partly because Justin Meyer realized twenty years ago (before many of his peers) that wine should be a beverage of joy. Ruby-red color. Very ripe aromas of roasted plum, red raspberry, maple syrup, smoke and scotch. Dense but bright and youthful. Flavors are still rather primary and high-pitched. Finishes rather tannic, but the tannins are smooth. This wine should und... Stephen Tanzers IWC. Wine Advocate ReviewRated 93The 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Cabernet Franc) reveals toasty sweet oak in the nose, bombastic levels of black currant fruit and spice along with a hint of mint in the background. Supple and full-bodied, with delirious levels of cedar and unctuously-textured fruit, this fleshy, gorgeously made Cabernet Sauvignon should drink well for 14-15 years.

The 1994 Silver Oak offerings look spectacular, once again confirming this vintage's unreal level of quality. Both the 1994 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and the 1994 Alexander Valley Cabernet should prove to be mega-hits when they are released. F... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
