The Yates family has owned the property for more than 60 years. Read less

This Meritage style Reserve is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot aged 18 months in 40% new French oak. The outstanding 2002 vintage and four years of velvet inducing bottle age make this wine the super star that it is as a myriad of complex, cassis, blueberry, cocoa and woodsmoke flavors soothingly envelope the palate and linger on the finish. This family owned winery is located on historic Mt. Veeder in Napa Valley. The Yates family has owned the 35 acres Castle Rock Vineyard, where all of the grapes are sourced for this wine, for 55 years. At an average elevation of over 1,100 feet, the vineyard is located on the slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, due west of the town of Napa, in the heart of the Mount Veeder Appellation with its combination of microclimates and volcanic soils. It produces top quality grapes with intense fruit flavors. A temperate growing season ensures thorough ripening and uncommonly rich, concentration. Typical of mountain vineyards the grapes are planted on terraces that must be framed and harvested by hand. Also typical are the extremely low yield these mountain vines produce.
