Napa Cellars Zinfandel Napa Valley 2008
Limited Amounts Of New Oak Were Used To Preserve The Big Zinfandel Flavors While Still Imparting Warm Spice And Vanillin Characteristics “Bright brambly fruit, berry cobbler, and classic Zinfandel spice on the nose are complemented by juicy raspberry, baked cinnamon apples, and dried cherries on the palate. Petite Sirah was added to enhance the color and fill out the mid-palate with jammy flavors. This classic Napa Valley Zinfandel displays firm tannins and nuances of cocoa and spice on the finish.” —Joe Shirley

Interesting to say the least. Sure needs either a ton of air or much more bottle time. Deep dark glass staining purple. This one was over the top with richness and a syrupy texture, huge blueberry and blackberry fruit, lip-smacking tannins and a little heat. Drinks like an '02 Pride Mountiain PS in terms of rishness. I'm going to save the next one for a while and see where it goes.
Spice, cedar, and jammy scents. Dry, powdery coffee flavor.
I little young of course but again, Orin Swift has come through!!! Let sit open in fridge a bit before tasting - (my opinion on this type wine and I feel a chill makes it better) - spice/black rasberry/pepper on the nose - Jammy fruits - smooth in the mouth with the famous Prisoner finish - gotta love The Prisoner - YUMMY!!!
The nose swirls with chocolate, tobacco, cigar box, pepper, plum, and oak. Allow 30 minutes for taming, and this wine will stalk the palate with expressions of chocolate-covered cherry, cigar, and dark fruit, including black raspberry and plum, followed by a medley of red fruits, including cherry and ripe wild berries. Strong tannins leave a dry, velvety mouth feel that supports lengthy, tobacco-laced and chocolate finish, all punctuated with a zingy but soft acidity.
Suprisingly received 2 of these for Christmas from multiple people...which is good, so I can drink one now! Pours a rich violet color with deep red hues on the edges. Lots of dark berries, cassis and peppery spices on the nose. Starts off with a solid amount of dark berry jam. In the middle, lots of currants, spices, blackberry with some biscotti (reminds me of the biscotti bakery when you walk in). Finishes off similar to the middle, but more intensified. This is a full bodied Southern Rhone wine that leaves a moderate lingering on the palate. I enjoyed this wine now, but will lay the other one down for another 5 or so years. A moderate value here.
full bodied peppery-raspberry flavours
This is an example of a nearly perfect textbook flavor profile for a (red) zinfandel from the Napa Region! The winemaker has once again outdone himself in making a varietal that is text-book in flavor for a wine in my opinion. This delightful taste treat hits your tongue with a ton of jam on the fore of the palate followed by a classic explosion of berries and fruit through the mouth and finishes a second after you swallow as a starburst of white pepper reaches from the back of your throat and pulls your tongue to the back of your mouth to fully absorb every last drop of the spice and flavor that you’ve unleashed upon it!

92 points - Wine Spectator "Offers both style and structure, with lively aromas of black raspberry, cracked pepper and mocha, with plush and layered flavors of wild berry, fresh sage and licorice. Ripe tannins sneak in on the finish. Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Charbono and Grenache. Drink now through 2014." (06/09) Yet another beautiful vintage of the prisoner from Orin Swift. This is not a wine to put in your cellar. Big, bright and all about immediate drinking. With vineyards sources such as Duarte, Toffanelli and David Fulton, there is no wonder why this wine is so beautiful and powerful. 50% Zinfandel, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, 9% Petite Sirah, 2% Charbono and 1% Grenache.
89 - 91 Points - Wine Advocate"The 2008 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet exhibits a dark, dense ruby color along with a big, sweet nose of roasted Provencal herbs, smoked meats, black currants, cherries, licorice, and seaweed. Ripe, medium-bodied, and already delicious, it should drink nicely for 4-5 years. "

Wine Spectator ReviewRated 96 COLLECTIBLE of Wine Spectator 2008 Top 100Really dense and locked up now, this is packed with dark fig, currant and blackberry fruit shrouded by layers of tar, hot stone, bittersweet licorice and espresso. The long, dense finish has a great tug of iron buried within it. Best from 2011 through 2030.Wine Advocate ReviewRated 94+The 2005 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape is a wine that probably needs 7-10 years of bottle age. Possibly the most backward and closed Beaucastel made since the 1995, the wine has very high tannins, seems totally closed aromatically, but in the mouth is a weighty wine exhibiting a dense ruby/purple color and tight aromatics consisting of new saddle leather, porcini, meat juices, licorice, tar, and black fruits. The wine is full-bodied, powerful, very tannic, and structured in a dramatically masculine, ageworthy style. This is one for the younger generation or those with considerable patience. I can't see it being close to drinkable before 2014 and lasting up to 30 or more years.
Wine Tasting NotesNapa Cellars Zinfandel is dark purple and opaque in the glass. The nose reveals intense, ripe berries, candied strawberry preserves and cinnamon spice. The palate follows with juicy, rounded fruit flavors that mingle with layers of warm, supple tannins leading to a long, plush finish.
