Napa Cellars Zinfandel Napa Valley 2007
The majority of the fruit for this wine is sourced from the warmer regions of Napa Valley, including Calistoga, St.Helena and Pope Valley. Napa Cellars Zinfandel is dark purple and opaque in the glass. The nose reveals intense, ripe berries, candid strawberry preserves and cinnamon spice. The palate follows with juicy, rounded fruit flavours that mingle with layers of warm, supple tannins leading to a long, plush finish.

Big rich nose yet not overdone with currants, dusty fruit and an obvious oak kiss. The palate is velvety smooth with a semi-sweet mid-palate performance as it shows red and blue fruits with cinnamon gram cracker. Nice, long fruity finish.
This one is a bit more reserved than the bold bruiser that was 2006. However, I think I preferred the 2006 just a bit more. This one's more calm and a tad more refined. Still a magnificent blend form Orin Swift. BV tasting 11/14/09 Lee's Discount Liquor
Wonderful dessert wine with chocolate. Nice and hefty with lots of plum. Not as good as 04, 05 or 06. Try to get those first.

1. 2007 Orin Swift The Prisoner – Napa Valley (15.2%) – Color: perfect (interpret as you will), Nose: ooo, a bit hot, time to decant….(“Smells like a winner! –Alastor), Taste: Ahh, just dances on the tongue…like Pop Rocks, very strong chocolate notes, cloves, cinnamon, subtle, plums, solid lasting finish that reminds me of home. Lamarr: A, strong A (a very good wine, yet could by a wine of similar stature for much less, low 20s. Interested in the ‘04 through ’06 vintages, as I’m told those blow this out of the water) Hector: A, 94 (It was good, not what I expected, so perhaps I’m a bit disappointed, yet is quite delicious)
Took a while to mellow out in the glass. Once it shed its bottle it revealed a deep, intense, chocolate flavor.
Garnet-red in colour tinged with brick. The nose is complex with many layers including cherry, casis, earth, violets, smoke and coffee. Very well balanced. The palate is luscious with complex fruit echoing the nose. The finish lingers and flavours intensify.

The 1996 Beaucastel is performing better after time in the bottle. With high acidity, this tannic, austere example is reminiscent (at least texturally) of a young Meacute;doc. Blackberry, earthy, leathery, spicy notes can be found in the aromas. In the mouth, the wine exhibits medium body, tangy acidity, plenty of meaty Mourvegrave;dre characteristics, and a structured, austere finish. It should only be purchased by those with the patience to wait for this wine to develop. Anticipated maturity: 2004ndash;2015.
Good full red. Less obviously ripe aromas of black cherry, dark berries, cocoa powder and smoke, plus a faint medicinal nuance. More open in the mouth today that the last; shows lovely sweetness and texture and very good cut and thrust. Hints of leather and game. Not quite as ripe as the rsquo;97, but finishes quite persistent, with a subtly perfumed quality. This may well be for drinking after the rsquo;97.
Distinctive, very monolithic, clean, pure and crisp, with fresh fruit zipping along the palate. Turning a bit tough and tannic, it holds back now, delivering little seduction, hiding well its leather, game, truffle and black fruit character, yet itrsquo;s undeniably balanced. Made to age. Best from 2010 through 2030.
Like some rsquo;99s, itrsquo;s a bit leaner that the 2000s or 1998rsquo;s, but itrsquo;s well-made, with youthful exuberance of ripe fruit, toasted oak, grilled meat, smoked chestnuts and blood orange, ironlike notes. Best from 2005 through 2010.
Super-ripe blackberry and cassis fruit dominate the 2000 Beaucastelrsquo;s aromatics. This low acid, accessible Beaucastel is likely to be bottled earlier than normal according to Francois Perrin. A classic blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvegrave;dre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, with the remainder miscellaneous varietals, this deep ruby/purple-colored 2000 possesses a sweet nose dominated by black fruits, loads of glycerin, full body, and superb purity. It will be atypically delicious young, yet will last 15ndash;20 years.
Full ruby. Highly complex nose combines black fruits, gibier, truffle, road tar, licorice and leather. Very intense and spicy, but still tightly wound, with a firm acid spine keeping the flavors under wraps. ldquo;Very interior wine today,rdquo; notes Perrin. But one already senses the incipient complexity. Finishes with building tannins, a note of caramel and terrific persistence. This will need time.
Beaucastel uses more of Mourvegrave;dre, which adds structure and density, than most of its peers do, making it one of the more age-worthy Chacirc;teauneufs. Its rsquo;98 joins the 1978, rsquo;89 and rsquo;90 as a benchmark Beaucastel. The 1989 was our Wine of the Year in 1991.
