Napa Cellars Zinfandel Napa Valley 2004
Napa Cellars 2003 Zinfandel is dark purple to the eye. A swirl of the glass reveals intense, ripe berries, candied strawberry preserves and cinnamon spice. The palate follows with juicy, rounded fruit flavors that mingle with layers of warm, supple tannin leading to a long, plush finish.

Young and hot. Very spicy zin, notes of chocolate. Fairly average - overpriced for almost $30. Very spicy hot finish.
This white wine is composed of 80% Roussanne and 20% Grenache. After picking the grapes and the fermentation of the juice, 30% aged in new oak barrels. The remaining 70% is aged in large wooden Foudres. 2004 seems to be a white wine to the old side, but a wine of this level can easily several years to mature in the bottle and are even benefit from. In the glass, the deep dark golden color is the first thing you notice about this hit from the southern Rhone region. The smell of the wine is characterized by mature tones, intensity and is very typical of a white wine from the illustrious Chateauneuf-du-Pape. We find in the fine fragrance notes of almond paste, apricot, honey and a little tray of orange mare. If the bottle open for some time are showing flowers and a small key from the glass timber up. There is also a slight oxidative tone observed. This is not at all disturbing and just adds a nice element to the wine. In the mouth the wine has a wonderful balance between crisp acidity and a high concentration of flavor. The aftertaste is long and intense. A beautiful specimen of a white Chateauneuf high flavor intensity, beautiful fresh tones and brilliant complexity. Definitely a beauty of a wine from this area. The wine is lovely to drink now, but has half hour to open. Our advice is to consume this wine in 2016, then it will be best. 93/100 Supersnobs.com
Excellent CNP from a strong vintage. Smooth, rich, soft and distinctly sweet (the way the Romans liked them--and why they planted the Rhone).
magical - did not know a zinfandel could be this good
the purple color is what drew me to this wine. after letting the bottle breathe, jammy and simple. easy to drink... easier to get drunk.
Always try to put this wine away and enjoy it years down the road. But I always pull it out for any special occasion. Hardest bottle to keep!!!
Lovely floral nose followed by luscious honeysuckle, lavender and subtle tropical notes. Great balance & finish; truly a model of finesse & elegance in an offbeat white.

Super-ripe blackberry and cassis fruit dominate the 2000 Beaucastelrsquo;s aromatics. This low acid, accessible Beaucastel is likely to be bottled earlier than normal according to Francois Perrin. A classic blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvegrave;dre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, with the remainder miscellaneous varietals, this deep ruby/purple-colored 2000 possesses a sweet nose dominated by black fruits, loads of glycerin, full body, and superb purity. It will be atypically delicious young, yet will last 15ndash;20 years.
Like some rsquo;99s, itrsquo;s a bit leaner that the 2000s or 1998rsquo;s, but itrsquo;s well-made, with youthful exuberance of ripe fruit, toasted oak, grilled meat, smoked chestnuts and blood orange, ironlike notes. Best from 2005 through 2010.
Beaucastel has made another great Chacirc;teauneuf du Pape in 1990. In stylistic terms, it is completely different from the profound 1989. The color is opaque black/ruby/ purple, and who can complain about the perfume of smoked meats, coffee, hickory, oriental spices, and black raspberries? In the mouth, the wine, while concentrated, full-bodied, and extremely rich, displays harder tannins, slightly higher acidity, and comes across as a more muscular, austere example of Beaucastelhellip; will not be approachable young, and will need at least 6ndash;7 years in the cellar.
The opaque ruby/purple colored 2000 Chacirc;teauneuf-du-Pape offers a profoundly sweet perfume of melted licorice, blackberries, and black cherries backed up by loads of glycerin, full body, and moderately high but sweet, well-integrated tannin. There is a seamlessness to the 2000 that will make it accessible early in life, and thus atypical of Beaucastel. The 1985 behaved in this manner when young, but the 2000 possesses even more stuffing. Anticipated maturity: 2007ndash;2025. Like its 2001 sibling, it is a classic blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvegrave;dre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and the balance other permitted varietals.
Heady with scents of licorice, plums, earth and spice, this wine makes good on all those promises on the palate, and does so gently but firmly, the flavors feeling light but leaving an indelible impression on the tongue. In every way the wine feels natural, effortless, as if it's a simple representation of an exceptional piece of land in an excellent vintage.
The 1996 Beaucastel is performing better after time in the bottle. With high acidity, this tannic, austere example is reminiscent (at least texturally) of a young Meacute;doc. Blackberry, earthy, leathery, spicy notes can be found in the aromas. In the mouth, the wine exhibits medium body, tangy acidity, plenty of meaty Mourvegrave;dre characteristics, and a structured, austere finish. It should only be purchased by those with the patience to wait for this wine to develop. Anticipated maturity: 2004ndash;2015.
Beaucastel is one of the most balanced Chateauneufs vintage in and out, as the Perrins take full advantage of the 13 permitted grape varieties (rather than relying heavily on the sun-loving grenache, as many do) and take care to avoid overripeness. The result offers all the licorice, plum, earth and spice that define Chateauneuf, yet it glides over the palate, never weighing it down.
