Napa Cellars Zinfandel Napa Valley 2004
Napa Cellars 2003 Zinfandel is dark purple to the eye. A swirl of the glass reveals intense, ripe berries, candied strawberry preserves and cinnamon spice. The palate follows with juicy, rounded fruit flavors that mingle with layers of warm, supple tannin leading to a long, plush finish.

Young and hot. Very spicy zin, notes of chocolate. Fairly average - overpriced for almost $30. Very spicy hot finish.
This white wine is composed of 80% Roussanne and 20% Grenache. After picking the grapes and the fermentation of the juice, 30% aged in new oak barrels. The remaining 70% is aged in large wooden Foudres. 2004 seems to be a white wine to the old side, but a wine of this level can easily several years to mature in the bottle and are even benefit from. In the glass, the deep dark golden color is the first thing you notice about this hit from the southern Rhone region. The smell of the wine is characterized by mature tones, intensity and is very typical of a white wine from the illustrious Chateauneuf-du-Pape. We find in the fine fragrance notes of almond paste, apricot, honey and a little tray of orange mare. If the bottle open for some time are showing flowers and a small key from the glass timber up. There is also a slight oxidative tone observed. This is not at all disturbing and just adds a nice element to the wine. In the mouth the wine has a wonderful balance between crisp acidity and a high concentration of flavor. The aftertaste is long and intense. A beautiful specimen of a white Chateauneuf high flavor intensity, beautiful fresh tones and brilliant complexity. Definitely a beauty of a wine from this area. The wine is lovely to drink now, but has half hour to open. Our advice is to consume this wine in 2016, then it will be best. 93/100 Supersnobs.com
Excellent CNP from a strong vintage. Smooth, rich, soft and distinctly sweet (the way the Romans liked them--and why they planted the Rhone).
magical - did not know a zinfandel could be this good
the purple color is what drew me to this wine. after letting the bottle breathe, jammy and simple. easy to drink... easier to get drunk.
Always try to put this wine away and enjoy it years down the road. But I always pull it out for any special occasion. Hardest bottle to keep!!!
Lovely floral nose followed by luscious honeysuckle, lavender and subtle tropical notes. Great balance & finish; truly a model of finesse & elegance in an offbeat white.

Rich in texture and flavor, with minty, creamy, vanilla and spice notes weaving through the basic black cherry fruit, echoing nicely on the fuzzy-grained finish. Drink now through 2004.
The 2002 Merlot, which was aged in used French and American oak (40% of the former and 60% of the latter), exhibits a dark plum/ruby color, a big, fleshy texture, and a sweet nose of roasted coffee, mocha, thyme, and cola-infused black cherry/plum-like fruit. It is a plush, corpulent Merlot to drink over the next 3-4 years.
The 2005 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape is a wine that probably needs 7ndash;10 years of bottle age. Possibly the most backward and closed Beaucastel made since the 1995, the wine has very high tannins, seems totally closed aromatically, but in the mouth is a weighty wine exhibiting a dense ruby/purple color and tight aromatics consisting of new saddle leather, porcini, meat juices, licorice, tar, and black fruits. The wine is full-bodied, powerful, very tannic, and structured in a dramatically masculine, ageworthy style. This is one for the younger generation or those with considerable patience. I canrsquo;t see it being close to drinkable before 2014 and lasting up to 30 or more years.
Deep ruby. Powerful, pungent aromas evoke kirsch, blackberry, smoky herbs and dried flowers. Energetic, penetrating cherry and dark berry flavors are enlivened by juicy acidity and given spine by a tangy mineral quality. A floral quality sneaks in with air, along with notes of allspice and star anise. The finish is sappy, focused and very long, with herbs and flowers lingering.
Good intensity. This inky red barrel sample shows tight flavors of toasty oak, ripe plum and blueberry and polished, almost elegant texture, with very well-integrated tannins. Modern style and structure give this wine a bright, sophisticated character.
The profound, inky purple-colored 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape is one of the great classic Beaucastels of recent years. It may be even better than its three immediate predecessors. The Perrins find the 2001 reminiscent of their 1990, a vintage that is drinking gloriously today. The 2001rsquo;s sumptuous bouquet of black fruits, saddle leather, underbrush, truffles, roasted herbs, cigar tobacco, and earth is followed by a concentrated, full-bodied wine with a penetrating intensity yet splendid freshness and vibrancy. This magnificent, majestic Beaucastel should hit its peak in a decade, and last 25 years. Anticipated maturity: 2012ndash;2030+.
These red wine are unreal in terms of their quality, flavor intensity, and overall complexity as well as their potential... I am not a fan of New World Merlot, but Marquis Philips' 2001 Merlot (a 100% Merlot from both Padthaway and McLaren Vale that was aged one year in old oak) is outstanding. Its dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by sweet aromas of vanilla, black cherries, mocha, smoke, and a hint of chocolate. Dense, textured, medium to full-bodied, with low acidity and luscious fruit, this is a sweetheart of a Merlot.
