Napa Cellars Chardonnay Napa Valley 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

88 points Connoisseurs' Guide: Mild yet fairly rich and softly fruited with pear and sweet apple scents and hints of roasted nuts, this direct, medium-full-bodied effort is balanced and somewhat rounded on the palate. It runs into a bit of stiffening coarseness in the latter palate and finish, but that also helps by providing a useful buffer to the somewhat juicy if simple fruit. No need to wait on this one. Enjoy it now. GOOD VALUE. (Feb 2014)

What does Napa stand for? For some, it conjures up images of five-star resorts and world renowned restaurants, but everyone agrees Napa Valley represents the pinnacle of great wines; one of the world's great wine capitals. Napa Cellars embodies the classic Napa Valley style - ripe, rich, balanced and collectible. Most importantly, the wines of Napa Cellars taste of the depth of this great wine region as much as the grapes themselves. In the valley's warm days and cool nights, our vineyards produce seven primary varieties for which Napa Valley has become famous. Try one of our classic wines, and we hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed making them. Read less

The 2010 is overall a nice wine. It has vanilla, slight butter and yeast in the nose and palette. Nice deep color and nice extract. Lacks a bit on the fruit side though. 87 rating

Soft, flavorful, fairly-priced, though somewhat routine Chardonnay. Lots of subtle notes in the nose and flavors - spiced apple, brown butter, caramel, dry straw, almonds. Smooth and eminently drinkable and pleasant, just lacking a tad of intensity and pep to be rated higher.

Expect rich aromas of melons and granny-smith apples mingled with clove spiced oak and coconut. You'll experience the fruit flavors balanced with citrus acidity before the long finish. Pair this fruit forward wine with roasted chicken.

It starts with a fruity yet spicy aromatic, and pours with a deep color. Caramel, toasted oak, and buttery mouth feel, yet crisp and lingering finish, 10-15 seconds. Taste of pear, citrus, nectarine, with a hint of bitterness, perhaps "minerality", that is really good on it's own. It held up and pared surprisingly well with a NY strip, and it's peppery side came out as a result. Bravo for $18.

Napa Cellars Chardonnay is our flagship wine. Every year the palate showcases huge fruit flavors reminiscent of tropical fruit, balanced by a layer of lemony acidity and a long, polished finish. Its moderate acidity makes it a more versatile Chardonnay when pairing with food.

The fruit for this 2010 Napa Cellars Chardonnay was sourced from select vineyards in prime Chardonnay locations including Southern Napa and Carneros. The cool weather influences in the southern part of the valley enabled an extended growing season. After the grapes were harvested and crushed, a quarter of the juice was cold fermented in stainless steel tanks while the balance was put into small French oak barrels. The wine was then put through malolactic fermentation and aged in barrel for a total of 7 months. The resulting wine has wonderful, bright fruit flavors and crisp acidity. It boasts beautiful aromas of baked apple ripe pear, and toast. It shows tropical pineapple, guava and pear fruit flavors with a long finish.
