Naked Penetration Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

As we're sure you'll agree, Penetration is always satisfying. Intense concentration with a huge extract. The French oak presence is upfront on the nose with sweet cherry and plum flavors of dark fruit. This Cabernet Sauvignon is an excellent companion to steak and pastas with a robust red sauce during the main course or during the dessert course try it with dark chocolate.

Getting Naked that is! The Penetration does just that - it gets up in my nostrils with the scents of pine and the outdoors after a refreshing rain. There is a hint of unsweetened chocolate or almond bark as well which is intoxicating. I think this wine could continue to cellar. The tannins are big and almost overpower the fruit. But if you look for it - the dried cherries are there. It finishes like a sigh of relief with the slightest bit of dark cocoa. I would drink this sitting on top of the car watching planes taxi in. It's that sexy.

This wine has a big beautiful bouquet that is really a big tease. The pepper and unsweetened chocolate that I'm sniffing in the nose fails to show up on the palette, a disappointment to say the least. There are flavors of dark fruit and bitter chokecherry. The finish goes soft, leaving me with just bare glimpses of that chokecherry in the finish.
