Winemaker's Notes:

We have always enjoyed the style of Zinfandel red wine modeled after California’s early history - fruit forward wines made by Italian immigrants that used a field mix blend of various grapes from their vineyard, with Zinfandel at the core. The other ‘field mix’ varietals used have flavors and structure that play off of the sweet berry qualities of Zinfandel. Our favorite is Carignane. When combined with Zinfandel, it can accentuate the sweet berry qualities of Zin with spicy, red cherry fruit flavors. Thus was born our Portrait of a Mutt Zinfandel.

Tasting Notes:

Wonderful aromas of black and red fruits (raspberry, blackberry and cherry - take your pick) are followed by Zinfandel’s signature ripe jammy flavors and supple finish. The ‘mutt’ shows itself in the finish where cleansing acidity gives the wine a wonderful freshness and drinkability.
