Mustiguillo Mestis 2008
Toni has set himself a very clear goal: he wants to make Mustiguillo one of Spain’s top estates. He has set about doing this with an impressive single-mindedness and attention to detail He has four different fincas in Utiel Requena, each producing wines of different characters and qualities, but is currently focusing his attentions on two fincas, Finca Terrerazo and Quincha Corral (‘quincha’ is an old way of building, using only mud, stones and straw). This complex blend is deep coloured and intensely perfumed, with notes of plum, strawberries and ripe cherries with a hint of toast. On the palate it is powerful and concentrated, the robust, spicy tannins softened by vanilla, strawberry and cassis, the chunky, fleshy Bobal character given finesse by the Tempranillo and Cabernet blend. Long and rich through to the finish.

This wine is purple-colored with an exotic aromatic array of black cherry, espresso and blackberry. It is smooth-textured, savory, and well-balanced. Best enjoyed now and over the next five years.
